Catalyst Arts Members Show 2020
In light of the present situation affecting the future of our programming and the delay of re-opening the Catalyst premises, it is the board’s decision to reconfigure the Catalyst Arts Members Show 2020 to be an online/virtual exhibition. We do not wish to cancel the show, regardless of any crisis. Catalyst is a members-based organisation that is committed to its members.
This will be our FIRST online Catalyst Arts Members Show. Transforming the traditional format of the show from a physical space to a digital one will be a challenge, yet it is necessary for us to consider and prepare for situations like this potentially repeating themselves in the future. The theme remains the same (please see below). However, we understand that this may be a challenge for some artists who feel their practice will come into difficulty being represented on a digital platform. That being the case, artists are free to submit a piece of writing, video or sound that responds to the work and will be incorporated in the curating of the exhibition.
…………….
Lived experience is determined by architecture; it confronts, directs, organises behaviour and movement. The body enlivens architecture, exceeds measurability and geometry, and provides a relational understanding of space. Artistic practice and process operates in rooms, on rooftops, in the streets and between the gaps. Our encounters activate belonging and integration, art proliferates on the edge of precarious times.
But in this time of crisis where does art exist?
The Catalyst Arts Members Show 2020 invites contributions of work from members to consider the role of the body activating limitations of buildings, inhabiting the surface of space and drawing attention to a sense of belonging within the fabric of the cityscape.
Catalyst Arts members are invited to submit a work in any medium for an online exhibition ie. performance, video, painting, sound. Members are also invited to submit a response to their work which can be in the form of writing, sound or video.
This is a Members Show, to take part applicants must be a Tier 1 or Tier 2 member of Catalyst Arts Patreon. You can become a member through our Patreon page at www.patreon.com/catalystarts. Being a member is a great way to support Catalyst Arts and have access to exclusive member opportunities throughout the year.
