The Catalyst Exchange
Catalyst Arts to Kilkenny, and back: “Up the Cats!”
The Catalyst Exchange is an opportunity for a Catalyst Arts member to partake in a period of virtual and practical research, remotely during the months of November and December. This opportunity is supported by Kilkenny Arts Office and Catalyst Arts to create an artistic exchange between Kilkenny and Belfast.
The past six months have revealed the many ways artists are adapting to the restrictions and alterations in delivering engaging experiences, yet coupled with the collective stress and anxiety circulating amongst our broader communities has also been non-conducive to creativity or productive thinking. This research residency is a chance for an artist to tell us what they need and how Catalyst Arts, as an organisation - with the expertise and aid of the Kilkenny Arts Office - can help in terms of support, space, collaboration and inspiration.
The current co-directors of Catalyst Arts have strong connections to the vibrant art scene in Kilkenny and will work alongside the selected artist to assist them in their artistic practice and research.
To mark this time of research we ask that there be some form of response, this could be in the form of a publication, workshop, performance or online manifestation that can be shared with the Kilkenny and Belfast community. It can be an ongoing, momentary or completely virtual response, the door is open to all and any ideas that artists want to explore or experiment with. The primary outcome is to create connections and recalibrate relationships between cross border arts organisations and practitioners.
In light of COVID-19 it is paramount that this opportunity is compliant with the current regulations and restrictions at any given time.
The successful artist will receive a budget of €2,050, which includes an artist fee, materials, equipment and budget for response.
