Catalyst Arts is currently accepting applications for new and upcoming co-directors.
Catalyst Arts has been one of the most important and innovative artist-led spaces for contemporary art in Belfast since it began in 1993. The driving force behind the organisation has always been the determined and enthusiastic committee of directors who have worked over the years to ensure the gallery remains at the forefront of the visual art scene in Northern Ireland – improving, producing and promoting art and culture and the advancement of education and training in the arts.
Catalyst Arts directorship programme has a local and international reputation of providing a unique training ground for artistic, curatorial and cultural production. Candidates who are seeking to advance their experience within an artist-led model of gallery programming and operations are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will gain valuable skills in installation, production, funding applications, commissioning, outreach, education, archiving and administration work. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Northern Ireland’s leading contemporary art organisations.
The role of co-director is a voluntary position carried out over two years, on a rolling basis.
Although previous experience in all areas is not essential, candidates are encouraged to review and consider the director criteria which can be found in the Catalyst Arts Job Description.

We review director applications twice annually, in Spring and Autumn, deadlines are subject to the current board but are advertised beforehand.

Catalyst Arts looking for volunteers to be part of our upcoming programming year.
This coming year at Catalyst will focus on ways to activate the gallery and engage with diverse audiences through a varied programme of exhibitions and events. Alongside our gallery exhibition programme, we will present a series of talks, tours, reading groups and workshops.We will deliver three Directors Shows, continue to be a vital platform for students and emerging artists, provide an array of opportunities for our members and develop new creative partners across Belfast and Internationally.
We are looking for dynamic and motivated individuals who are interested in all things contemporary art and visual culture to help support the board in this work. You will gain experience in the preparation and execution of exhibitions including performance, installation, artist support, invigilation, archive work, social media and more. In addition to some getting some first hand insight into the day to day running of an artist organisation. This is a unique opportunity to get behind the scenes and establish close contacts with curators, artists and participants of our upcoming programme.
